It’s occurred to me to trade my Sub for a Sub Date, but that seems like a hassle since I have several Rolexes with the date.

Since I already had the date with the GMT, I wanted a little differentiation from that watch. Some people don’t go for the no date because they feel that they need a date on their watch, however, I already have a few watches with no date so I know I won’t miss it. Also, I felt that the no date was nice because of the symmetry.

The date version is the Sub imagined by the vast majority when they hear the word, hence it makes much more sense to say Sub and no date Sub. Posts: 351. I think Rolex did a tremendous service by increasing the no-date models when they added the OP line. Prior to, most people had two realistic options - Explorer and sub (one look and model) as the Daytona was relatively expensive and unavailable.
